A few weeks ago I stopped into a little shop in Flagler Beach I'd driven past a hundred times and never walked into. The owner remembered my name by my second visit. That's not something that happens at a chain store, and it's the whole reason I do what I do.

I think a lot about what makes Flagler County feel like home instead of just a place we live. It's not the strip malls. It's the coffee shop where the barista knows your order, the contractor who actually shows up when he says he will, the boutique owner who hand writes a thank you note in your bag. Those things only exist because someone local decided to build something here instead of somewhere else.

Every Dollar Spent Locally Does More

There's a simple truth that gets lost in the convenience of one click ordering. When you spend money at a local business, more of it stays right here. It pays a neighbor's salary, it gets reinvested in equipment or inventory from other local vendors, it sponsors a kid's little league team. When you spend the same dollar at a big box store or a national chain, most of that value leaves the county and never comes back. ☕
